World Shipping Council Briefs U.S. Shippers on EU Rules

The World Shipping Council met with U.S.-based shipper and forwarder trade associations Thursday to explain the European Union’s new customs cargo security filing requirements, which are scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2011. The new European rules will require the documentation of containerized cargo shipments that will arrive in European ports to be electronically filed with European customs authorities no later than 24 hours before vessel loading.
