CBSA Message: December 2008 monthly K84 statement

(CBSA)

Although payment for December 2008's monthly K84 statements will be due as usual on December 31, 2008, the CBSA realizes that the number of statutory holidays and where they fall during the work week create a particular challenge for clients. Therefore, the CBSA will not issue a late payment penalty and will not charge interest if the payment is received after December 31, 2008, but before 4:30 PM local time, January 2, 2009. Should payments be received after 4:30 PM local time, January 2, 2009, they will be subject to interest and penalties dating back to January 2, 2009.

On January 2, 2009 the banks are on holiday in the province of Quebec, clients who normally pay their K84s at a bank in Quebec will have until 11:30 AM local time January 5, 2009, to pay and provide proof of payment to their payment office without incurring late payment penalties and interest. Therefore should payments be received after 11:30 AM local time, January 5, 2009, they will be subject to interest and penalties dating back to January 5, 2009.

Note to those who pay K84s in Quebec:
The January 5th extension applies only to clients who are eligible to pay at a bank, such as CSA clients. All others are obliged to provide payment by 4:30 PM local time on January 2nd, 2009.
